Activities of Konpal, PPA & CRC in 2007 |
The following activities on the issues of child rights and abuse were organized by PPA Child Rights Committee, Sindh in collaboration with KONPAL, Child Abuse Prevention Society in 2007.
Eight Two Days Training Workshops on Child Protection and Early Case Detection and Management of Child Abuse for Health Care Providers (HCP)
More than HCPs were trained in these hands on workshop.
* 23-24 May, 2007: Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi (30 Doctors Trained)
* 23-23 October, 2007: Civil Hospital Karachi (35 Doctors Trained)
* 23-24 October, 2007: School Health Doctors at Paeds Unit-III CHK (30 Doctors & Paramedics Trained)
* 11-12 December, 2007: Lyari General Hospital (55 Nurses & Paramedics Trained)
* 13-14 December, 2007: Hamdard University (35 Doctors Trained)
* 17-18 December, 2007: Civil Hospital Hyderabad/LUMHS (35 Doctors Trained)
Meeting of PPA, CRC/KONPAL/Hospital Child Protection Committee
Regular meetings were held in 2007. Eleven meetings were held at Konpal office and 3 meetings were held at MS office and Paeds Unit-III CHK.
Two One Day Orientation Workshop
Two One Day Orientation Workshop on Case Detection and Management of Child Abuse. More than 50 doctors and nurses were trained. These were held at
* March 2,
2007:Liaquat University Medical of Health Sciences (LUMHS) Hyderabad on 2nd March 2007. Training 35 doctors from different speciality.
* May 19,
2007:Sindh Nurses Examination Board, Nursing Training Institute of Sindh on 19th May 2007. More than 35 nurses including 20 senior nurses were trained.

Our Objectives
1. To create awareness regarding all forms of child abuse through awareness seminars, conferences, workshops, interactive/open forum discussions.
2. To launch an awareness/advocacy campaign against child abuse through mass media.
3. To involve parents, caretakers, healthcare providers, law-enforcing authorities and other stakeholders in prevention of, and care of the victims of, child abuse.
4. To involve decision-makers in the community in prevention/rehabilitation of affected children.
5. To involve affected children in rehabilitation programmes.
6. To help rehabilitate child victims of abuse and their families.
7. To provide medical and psychiatric treatment/counseling to the affected children.
8. To establish a special cell in the major hospitals for providing advocacy/counseling/rehabilitation of victims of child abuse.
9. To establish a model rehabilitation centre.
10. To assist and provide legal support.
11. To conduct and promote fact-finding research on child abuse.
12. To launch and maintain an interactive website and publish a newsletter both in electronic and print media for public education and awareness regarding child abuse.
13. To interact with other organizations having a similar agenda in order to benefit from each others experience.
