Activities of Child Protection Committee, PPA, CRC & Konpal in 2008 |
The Child Protection Committee in collaboration with KONPAL, Child Abuse Prevention Society and CRC PPA has conducted the following activities on the issue of child rights and abuse in Sindh in year 2008.
Two Days Training Workshops on Child Protection & early Case detection & Management of Child Abuse
* 3-4 Feb, 2008: Chandka Medical College Larkana
* 13-14 March, 2008: Agha Khan University Hospital
* 23-24 Aug, 2008: Civil Hospital Karachi
* 25-26 Aug, 2008: NICH
* 1-2 Sep, 2008: Civil Hospital Karachi
* 28-29 Oct, 2008: Sindh Govt Children Hospital, North Karachi
* 25-26 Nov, 2008: Sindh Govt Qatar Hospital
Children Day Celebration
A three day programme was organized for this mega event by KONPAL.
* Nov 18,
2008: Media awareness programme through children of Konpal children Club .Children visited offices of the print and electronic media and presented their recommendation related on child rights and abuse.
* Nov 19,
2008:demonstration in front of Karachi Press club to protest against injustices towards children and raise voice against child abuse. More than 200 participants including 100 children participated in the silent protest.
* Nov 20,
2008:Seminar cum Workshop on child abuse for Health Care Providers (Nurses and doctors) at PMA house. More than 200 HCP attended the seminar.
Wide coverage was given on the media of these activities.
Hospital Child Protection Committee
This committee has been most active during the current year. The committee met every month regularly during the current year. More than 150 cases were brought to the attention of HCPC during current year.

Awareness Raising Seminar

Awareness Raising Programmes on Radio & Television
The members of Konpal and PPA CRC has actively participated in the awareness raising on child right s and abuse on radio and TV channels .Prof Aisha Mehnaz, Dr Ashfaq Mala, Dr Nusrat Shah, Ms Farah Iqbal Ms Jacoline Sommer and others participated in these events on PTV,TV one ,Vibe Tv,Sama TV ,FM 107 and other media channel.
Konpal Children Club
Konpal children club has been formed, children from Konpal children club actively participated in the children day activity and in the 9th National Conference on Child Rights, Abuse and neglect held at CPSP from 19-21 Dec 2008.
Networking with other NGO
Konpal is actively working with other NGO in collaborative work and the formation of Civil Society Organization.
Konpal Bulletin
Konpal bulletin is being regularly taken out covering all the activities of PPA ,CRC and Konpal and it also contain awareness raising messages and information's on CRC and Child abuse and neglect. The bulletin is widely distributed to the participants of workshops and stake holders.
9th National Paediatric Conference
9th National Paediatric Conference was organized by PPA, Child Rights Committee in collaboration with Konpal in the most becoming fashion from 19-21 Dec ,2008 at CPSP. The conference event was well covered by all the print and electronic media . over 300 participants including large number of people from civil society organization and social activist attended the conference and actively participated in the four panel discussions and seven scientific sessions.

Konpal members have attended a number of workshops organised by INGO, NGO and other organizations.

Our Objectives
1. To create awareness regarding all forms of child abuse through awareness seminars, conferences, workshops, interactive/open forum discussions.
2. To launch an awareness/advocacy campaign against child abuse through mass media.
3. To involve parents, caretakers, healthcare providers, law-enforcing authorities and other stakeholders in prevention of, and care of the victims of, child abuse.
4. To involve decision-makers in the community in prevention/rehabilitation of affected children.
5. To involve affected children in rehabilitation programmes.
6. To help rehabilitate child victims of abuse and their families.
7. To provide medical and psychiatric treatment/counseling to the affected children.
8. To establish a special cell in the major hospitals for providing advocacy/counseling/rehabilitation of victims of child abuse.
9. To establish a model rehabilitation centre.
10. To assist and provide legal support.
11. To conduct and promote fact-finding research on child abuse.
12. To launch and maintain an interactive website and publish a newsletter both in electronic and print media for public education and awareness regarding child abuse.
13. To interact with other organizations having a similar agenda in order to benefit from each others experience.
