KONPAL Child Abuse Prevention Society is a group of professionals from different fields, concerned with the rising incidence of abuse against children. The group is fighting for the rights of children and against all forms of abuse, neglect, maltreatment and exploitation of children.
The group shares the common vision of a society free of child abuse, with zero tolerance against sexual abuse, commercial exploitation, child labour in hazardous occupations and involvement of children in armed conflicts.

Child Abuse |
Any act which individuals, institutions or prossesses do (commission) or fail to do (omission) which directly or indirectly harm the children or damage the prospects of safe and healthy development into adulthood. This exposes the child to unnecessary suffering.

Physical Abuse |
A non-occidental injury to child caused by a parent/caregiver/stranger. It includes injuries which are caused by severe discipline, severe beating or Cigrate burns, bruising, laceration or welts, burns, fractures or dislocations, attempted suffocation or strangulation and death. It also includes abusive administration of drugs or alcohol to a child.

Sexual Abuse |
Any activity in which an adult or an older child uses a younger child for his/her (abuser’s) sexual gratification.

Emotional Abuse |
The failure of a person (usually parent/caregiver) to meet the basic needs of affection and comfort of a child, including the isolation of a child, and snubbing or terrorizing him/her.

Neglect |
The failure to provide a child with the basic necessities of life, including food, clothing, schooling, shelter, emotional security, medical care, and adequate supervision needed for his/her normal growth and development.

Our Objectives |
1. To create awareness regarding all forms of child abuse through awareness seminars, conferences, workshops, interactive/open forum discussions.
2. To launch an awareness/advocacy campaign against child abuse through mass media.
3. To involve parents, caretakers, healthcare providers, law-enforcing authorities and other stakeholders in prevention of, and care of the victims of, child abuse.
4. To involve decision-makers in the community in prevention/rehabilitation of affected children.
5. To involve affected children in rehabilitation programmes.
6. To help rehabilitate child victims of abuse and their families.
7. To provide medical and psychiatric treatment/counseling to the affected children.
8. To establish a special cell in the major hospitals for providing advocacy/counseling/rehabilitation of victims of child abuse.
9. To establish a model rehabilitation centre.
10. To assist and provide legal support.
11. To conduct and promote fact-finding research on child abuse.
12. To launch and maintain an interactive website and publich a newsletter both in electronic and print media for public education and awareness regarding child abuse.
13. To interact with other organizations having a similar agenda in order to benefit from each others experience.

Our Call |
Konpal’s call comes against a backdrop of rising child sexual abuse. Everyone has to play a role in fighting against child sexual abuse. We want our legislators and the leaders of public opinion must campaign to pass a comprehensive law to effectively curb child abuse and particularly the sexual abuse, and our administration to enforce those laws in true spirit.
